Windows Hello
What is Windows Hello?
Windows Hello is a biometric security feature introduced in Windows 10 that allows people to sign in without having to use their password every time. It supports the use of a PIN, facial recognition, or fingerprint. Signing into Windows 10 or 11 using Windows Hello is often faster and simpler. Biometric security also helps mitigate the risk of people spying on your password over your shoulder.
Windows Hello on Shared PCs
At NSHC, we have decided to turn off Windows Hello on Shared PCs. The reason for this is that the Windows Hello setup slows down the login process and can frustrate teammates who are just trying to get signed in. This sort of login experience can cause issues when dealing with a production issue. We also found that teammates oftentimes set different PINs on different computers which can result in confusion and the inability to login.
What is a Shared PC? How can I tell?
A shared PC is a computer or device that is used by multiple users. The best example of this type of device would be a pulpit operator computer or a device in a common area like the Warehouse. If you were not issued a personal device for use only by you, then the PC is classified as "Shared."
